Guillaume Pinard, myself, and others

Guillaume Pinard was born in 1971, he lives and works in Toulouse. With the cartoons drawn by Guillaume Pinard, obsessions build up perturbing stories. Led and attracted by their childish, smooth, naive quality, the viewer is violently plunged into the horrible plights faced by the reluctant heroes devised by the artist. The two eyeballs, the main protagonists of "Le retourne", a 14' animated cartoon, a nagging, fantastical ellipse, go through surprising adventures, the narrative composition of which reminds you of Czech masters' animated cartoons , from Karel Seman to Jiri Trenka. In the face of Guillaume Pinard's haunted world, psychoanalysis is not enough to understand the images and the situations, it is a clue not legitimation. The drawings, whether animated or in hundreds of exercise book pages, suggest projection, recognition fields, an amoral, slightly sadistic , definitely fascinating outlet .

TUSSLE
They've ended up in quite a few of my mixes; i've yet to be able to explain why i'm so fasinated by their groove, perhaps it's the simple minded ness of the beats or the fact that it is progression of beats similar to Adrian Michna's 'EggFooYoung' but not nearly as hip hop focused some thing they call 'Ghetto Tech / Booty Bass Electro' from the label touchin bass____Andrea Parker’s own Touchin’ Bass label is now a firm fixture on the electronic music radar. With 10 releases under its belt including, EggFooYoung from Miamis Secret Frequency Crew, Chaotic State, ADJ, Hydraulix, Cultek, Detroit’s MANASYt, Bass Junkie, Sync 24, Andrea Parker and David Morley, plus a collaboration between herself and Detroit’s DJ Godfather and DJ Assault. Touchin’ Bass is one of the world’s premier electro labels.; although I would be hard place to call TUSSLE rock either. Tussle composed a 11 minute track for Brian Miller's Tape Club for release on a limited edition cassette in Feb. Join the club here. Give'em a listen and let me know what u think; speaking of non specific genre.. jazz Scream
another minor compostion of mine; i got this and a few others on MySpace iDLg actually, only 3 tracks on that site and i am working on the fourth, esp., since they only allow 4 for free, i'll change em as i go; i'm definitly open to criticism/review and would greatly dig the feedback.
Sad_Sack sounds of the city detail I've been terribly attacted to the label Thirsty Ear's blue series; thus far i've collected a few 12" tracks like DJ Wally's Meat Beat Manifesto and DJ Logic's remixes and now i'm after Matthew Shipp's 'One': one_t.jpgMatthew Shipp says so much without ever using a word. In "One", his latest release for Thirsty Ear's Blues Series, Shipp sends up a powerful entourage of solo acoustic tracks. Where previous releases have been on a voyage through electronica and hip- hop, this album comes full circle and presents a pure and intimate taste of what Matthew Shipp Is all about. Him and his weapon, the piano.
and now folks, a parting iDLg song, or couple of songs; most of the time i compose with Garage Band, and various Krog, Roland and Boss synth's; myth_Bentportrait_of_ralph

Fleeing by night

Armando Vargas
Last night i wept over a movie by Li Kong Hsu and Chi Yin, Shaodung (Lei Huang), a Chinese cellist born in America, goes home to Beijing to meet a woman arranged to be his wife, Ing'er (Rene Li). But his heart has other plans, in spite of his own inner conflict; instead of loving Ing'er, his attentions shift to a male opera singer, Lin Chun (Chao-te Yi).
exquisite love story..that touched so much longing in my heart..made me wonder what rock of emotional exile i've been living under.. he who know it, feels it..
Where I been I've no playlist for this set; it happen'd and I walk'd away from the wheels, reminds me of a line from the 'fleeing by night'; the night they (Shaodung & Lin Chun) part'd after a fun day and night; Lin Chun shouts back to Shaodung from the wall of which he is pearched; 'Shaodung!' Shaodung turns from the car door to watch Lin Chun leap back to the ground and stand a few feet away from him. 'Shaodung, can I have a cigarette?' Shaodung smiles at him, and approaches him with the pack of cigarettes extended; when he get within a breath from Lin Chun, he taps the pack and offers a cigarette; Lin Chun peers intensely into Shaodung's eyes, and says, "Shaodung, my memory of you..is here" and he places his hand to his heart. He turns and with two leaps, he's up and over the wall and gone, without taking the cigarette, still extended in Shaodung's hand.

    the Heir of that Rhectoric

I found this record at Groove Merchant quite some time ago; I have since lost the cover__i was spinning it at 'Oh So Little' one morning; folks was turned on, quite a few got up from they coffees and asked me who was the band..and somehow the WhiteField Brothers (American alter-egos of Germany's Poets of Rhythm) cover dissapeared, Luckly, the record was in a sleeve but not the cover. Yeah, I still got the damn thing, and I hell'a grateful; been looking for other work by these cats but so far not seeing any'ting..whitefield.jpg

Nation of Ulysses 'Plays Pretty For Baby' I knew 'Alan' back in 1999. He was a rather lean, tall filipino, with a particularly punk bent. Back in those days the peirced lip, skater shoes, ragged slacks was standard signifyers, but Alan had some'ting else. He was both charming and handsome, and for all of his rugged excess, he was gentle and kind. When he died from a motorcyle accident, I felt deeply lost and agonized. I went to his burial and lost more of myself. Nation of Ulysses is one thing he left and i absorbed.noUlyssesjpg.jpg

O.K., i started off wrong, drunk as a mutha'fucker, draging ass up Mission in Daly City, after midnight wit my friend gRoove _tECnician catch his Submindub. Got to top the hill and slid down it towards BART, once in the station, on a car, finally sitting after so difficult of a struggle to walk; then comes the 'heave' of which i blame the 'too warm' car but really i was too drunk on two different drinks..Belgan Ale and some stupid spanish licquor..johnHandy.jpgJohn Handy
i'm drop'n my pick up the other day, i guess besides the on_line order of Piano OverLord Singles Collection LP
    hanging out at Music 101 wit gRoove _tECnician yesterday before we got drunk; I also got Silkk the Shocker "Made Man";
Master P and his brother put out a o.k. album, the style is similar to 2Pac and Biggie but it is also significantly pre dirty south sound; I'm not blown away by Silkk, but I am entertained, he has clever production style wit his brother on this double plate record. 'Ghetto Rain' stands out for me but I think a couple other tracks seem strong, e.g., 'It's Going Around Outside' and 'All Because of you" as well as 'Somebody like Me'
Betty Davis 'They Say I'm Different of couse this has nothing to do with the rest of the artist cited here; just thought I toss it out there, since few remember this woman the one wife of the late Miles Davis
anyway the other two purchases (besides the John Handy and the VSP ..Art of Ballads) was the Batman soundtrack by Prince; and Ultra Nate "One Woman's Insanity"
Last Train to Cool The Nation of Ulysses, "Plays Pretty for Baby"
